The Future of Money: CBDCs and Financial Services

The Global Blockchain Business Council’s (GBBC) Post Trade Distributed Ledger (PTDL) Group invites you to join a conversation with leaders in finance and technology to understand their unique involvement and outlook on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), as well as their views on the ecosystem’s evolution and the challenges that lie ahead.
About the Speakers:
Fabio Araujo is a telecommunications engineer and he has a PhD in economics. Fabio has been working at Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) since 1998. At the beginning of in his career he took part in the implementation of the Inflation Targets regime in Brazil and, afterwards, dedicated himself to advising the formulation of the BCB’s monetary policy. More recently, he was head of the Office of Economic Advisors to the Governor and currently coordinates the work for the future implementation of a digital version of the Brazilian Real (BRL).
Morgan H. McKenney is the Chief Operating Officer for Global Consumer Banking, based in New York. In this role, she is accelerating delivery of strategic products and capabilities, including global digital strategy, global wealth solutions, managing best in class analytics unit, and collaborating with Citi’s Institutional Client Group to co-develop innovative merchant solutions for growth.
Previously Morgan was based in Hong Kong for four years as the head of Core Cash Management for Asia within Citi’s Institutional business. In this role, she was responsible for Payments and Receivables and Commercial Cards across the region. She also managed the Citi Innovation Lab in Singapore for Treasury and Trade Solutions and her role included delivering innovation in payments across Asia, technology investment prioritization, digitizing capabilities, enabling the business to more routinely and successfully innovate, and growing with ecommerce and digital clients.
She began her career as a Management Associate at Capital One Financial in Richmond, Virginia. Morgan received a BA in Computer Science from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She is a member of Council on Foreign Relations and the Leadership Now Project.
David Treat is Senior Managing Director, Global Lead of Accenture’s Blockchain Business, Global Capital Markets Technology Lead, and Accenture Lead of the NY Fintech Innovation Lab. He has over 20 years of experience in Financial Services split between consulting and industry roles spanning Capital Markets and Banking. Over the past several years, Dave has driven the formation of Accenture’s Blockchain Business globally. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Linux Hyperledger Project, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, Global Blockchain Business Council and the ID2020 Alliance, Project Director for the Digital Dollar Project, is a member of the World Economic Forum C4IR Global Blockchain Council and is a program advisor for the Chamber of Digital Commerce. David is Accenture’s lead for the New York Fintech Innovation Lab which is co-run by Accenture and the Partnership Fund for New York City.
About the Moderator:
Andre Portilho is a trader and entrepreneur from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with expertise in equity and FX derivatives, algorithmic trading, cypto assets and technology applied to financial markets. Andre started his career in 1993 as a intern at Banco Icatu, in Rio de Janeiro. In 1994, he moved to the proprietary trading desk to trade equity and equity options. In 2000 moved to Banco Pactual to start the Equity Derivatives Trading Desk. Three years later, created the FX Derivatives Trading Desk, to act as market maker in the local and offshore BRL markets. When UBS acquired Banco Pactual in 2004, became responsible for the Latin America Equity and FX Derivatives trading desks with traders in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Stamford, CT. In 2007 left Banco UBSPactual to join Paineiras Investimentos, a newly formed hedge fund, as trader and partner focussed in Equity and FX Derivatives. In May, 2011 left Paineiras Investimentos and returned to BTGPactual, now a Global Emerging Markets Investment Bank formed after Banco UBSPactual’s acquisition by BTG Partners. Led the launch of ReitBZ, the first Security Token Offering done by an investment bank in the world.
