Blockchain & DNA? A Conversation with Dr. Mark Gerstein

December 6, 2022 EST

Yale School of Medicine Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry Professor, Dr. Mark Gerstein, published the paper ‘Storing and Analyzing a Genome on a Blockchain’, implementing an approach to use blockchain technology as a tool in genome analysis.

Due to the technical challenges related to storing genomes in a blockchain infrastructure, many blockchain genomics companies use blockchains as a log-keeping infrastructure. In the study, Dr. Gerstein’s group presented “…the first open-source, proof-of-concept private blockchain network, which allows for efficient storage and retrieval of personal genetic variants.”

Join the Yale Alumni Health Network (YAHN) for a discussion with Dr. Mark Gerstein and Sandra Ro, CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) and YAHN HealthTech Chair, on the findings from Dr. Gerstein’s publication, and insights into how blockchain can be used to restore data ownership and integrity when it comes to genomics research and beyond.
